His consecutive game record set on September 6, 1995 spanned sixteen seasons and surpassed the record held by Lou Gehrig for 56 years. Cal's first of 2,632 straight games occurred on May 20, 1982. He batted eighth and played third base in a game against the Toronto Blue Jays.
